About

I’m a PhD candidate at the American University School of Communication. My dissertation is focused on the new media entities assuming the institutional role formerly played by local newspapers; other projects I’m involved with include an analysis of media discourses around generative AI, a study on the evolution of ethics in computing in the 90’s, and a study on how non-voters represent themselves online. I’m also excited to teach the introductory Understanding Media class for AU undergrads in fall 2025.

Before academia, I spent nearly two decades in industry, first in law for seven years, and most recently in marketing and communications, primarily as a ghostwriter for executives at organizations in telecom, PR, and philanthropy. In the middle of all that, I also snagged my masters degree in digital media communications from the University of Washington.

In my spare time, I have chaired the community advisory board for Cascade Public Media, and played percussion instruments on Radiohead covers with a fun volunteer orchestra in Seattle. While I work through the slow grind of scholarly publishing and diss writing (not to mention building out this website), I share some lighter thoughts on media, technology, and politics here.
